Coconut or horsehair
Horsehair is the softest fibre we supply. Soft hair bends along and carries fine dust and hair with it instead of stirring it up. That is exactly what you want indoors, on smooth floors, laminate and tiles.
Coconut is stiffer and more resilient. The fibre stands up straighter and picks up coarse dirt, sand and leaves. That makes coconut the choice for the pavement, the garage and the workshop, and for indoors too when sand gets onto the floor.
Black coated or galvanised pan
A black coated pan has a coating over the metal: neatly finished, and small scratches hardly show. Galvanised metal is zinc-plated and therefore better protected against moisture. If you use the set outdoors or in a damp space, galvanised lasts longer.
Short or long handle
The model with the short grip is meant for bending or crouching work: a tipped-over crate, crumbs under a table, a corner you deal with in passing. The version with the long handle lets you stand upright. If you sweep something up several times a day, or your back gives you trouble, that is the difference between a small job and a burden.
Why metal instead of plastic
A plastic pan warps, and as soon as the edge no longer sits flat on the floor the dirt slides underneath it. Metal keeps its shape, even when someone steps on it. That is why the classic dustpan and brush is still made the way it always was.

Which set do I choose for indoors?
Horsehair, with a black or galvanised pan. The soft hair does not send fine dust into the air, so it actually ends up in the pan.
And for outdoors?
Coconut with a galvanised pan. The stiff fibre handles sand and leaves, and the zinc-plated pan copes with moisture better than a coated version.
How do I keep the brush clean?
Knocking it out is usually enough. Coconut can be rinsed with water if needed. Leave the brush to dry with the bristles facing up so they do not bend. Horsehair does not go in the washing machine.
Why are the brush and pan sold as a set?
They are matched to each other: the width of the brush fits the opening of the pan, so the dirt goes in with one sweep. Separate handles and other accessories can be found under cleaning accessories.
